Nike gave us our first glimpse of the Team USA Olympic uniforms last year (haven’t stopped thinking about that all-white podium look since, TBH), and now Ralph Lauren is following suit, unveiling the official closing ceremony outfits that Team USA will rock this August in Tokyo. And yes, they’re as fresh, clean, and classic as you’d expect, with navy polos, white windbreakers, and white pants to finish off the look.
Another fun fact: Ralph Lauren incorporated sustainable and recycled fabrics throughout the uniform. The red, white, and blue striped belt and the drawstring jacket are both made from Repreve recycled polyester (derived from plastic water bottles), the brand said, while the pants feature a nifty back patch of Mirum, a “leather alternative” made of renewable resources, including plant-based materials and agricultural by-products. “As we come together to celebrate and compete, we must also embrace our responsibility to protect the planet we all call home,” said David Lauren, the brand’s chief innovation and branding officer and vice chairman of the board. “As part of this, we are proud to continue to invest in and scale sustainability innovations — dressing our nation’s best and brightest athletes in timeless clothing that has been consciously created.”
The bright and sporty feel is definitely a classic one, and if you can’t wait until the Olympics to see some of your fave athletes modeling it, go ahead and read on. A handful of Team USA athletes, including swimmer Katie Ledecky, karate athlete Sakura Kokumai, water polo player Ashleigh Johnson, and surfer Caroline Marks, showed off the new look and gave us a taste of what we’ll see in Tokyo very soon.
