When you talk about your mental health, do you feel like people downplay your symptoms or straight up don’t believe you? If you have depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or any other mental illness, you’ve probably heard “it’s all in your head,” “why don’t you just get over it,” “things aren’t that bad.” But what if we talked about mental illness the way we talk about physical illness?

As TikToker @carlie_chimenti1 points out, it’s ridiculous to assume a mental illness isn’t “real” just because we can’t see it. Would it make sense to tell someone with a broken leg to just get over it or that it’s not that bad because someone else has broken their leg worse? Exactly. Watch her spot on TikTok above, and share it with anyone who has doubts about the validity of mental illness.
