We’ve been wearing and buying masks for over a year now, and the majority of our purchases have been reusable cloth masks. We’ve been double masking or using masks with filter pockets (and filters!) for extra coverage. If you are interested in taking it one step further but can’t find any N95 masks, you can buy KN95 or KF94 masks. KN95 masks are made in China and meet the Chinese standard for aerosol particle regulation but not the US standard. Therefore, they’re not the ones we’d give to healthcare workers, but if you’re living your life, this could be a good option. KF94 masks are made in South Korea; the KF stands for Korean Filter, and it blocks 94 percent of particles as opposed to the KN95, which blocks 95 percent.
These masks both provide an excellent layer of protection when you’re at the grocery store, beauty appointment, or doctor’s office, but they’ve been hard to get your hands on, or there have been questions around counterfeit masks.
