Lili Reinhart’s Takedown of Body-Editing Apps Is a Must Read: “We Are Better Than This”

Fitness

Lili Reinhart is shedding light on a harmful byproduct of social media. After recently searching for a photo-resizing app, the Riverdale star came across an app that allows users to alter their bodies in photos. In a series of Instagram Stories, Lili credited apps of that variety with perpetuating unrealistic standards of beauty. “This is not okay. This is why people develop eating disorders. This is why social media has become hazardous to our health. This is why people have unrealistic expectations of their bodies,” she wrote.

This isn’t the first time Lili has publicly spoken on the subject of body image and societal pressures. At Glamour‘s 2018 Women of the Year Summit, she expressed feeling self-conscious and “hyper-aware” about her body after breaking into the industry.

“This is why social media has become hazardous to our health.”

Lili ultimately implored her followers to not use said body-editing apps. Though she said she sympathizes with people who might feel like “their bodies aren’t good enough,” she stressed, “Looking ‘skinnier’ in a photo on Instagram is not worth the detrimental psychological effects that these photoshopping apps have given our generation,” adding, “We are better than this.” Read her entire takedown ahead.
