Megan Rapinoe is one of the biggest stars of the US women’s soccer team, but here’s one thing you may not know about the athlete who’s a leader both on and off the field: she has a twin sister, Rachael Rapinoe, who also had a successful soccer career.
Rachael played alongside Megan at the University of Portland and was named to the American women’s national under-23 soccer team in 2006. A few years later, she returned to the international scene by briefly signing with Stjarnan Women, a professional women’s soccer team in Iceland. However, her career was abruptly cut short in 2012 when a retorn knee ligament injury made it impossible for her to return to the field.
After her retirement from soccer, Rachael continued to coach and host clinics for young soccer players with her sister as part of a joint venture called Rapinoe SC. Although the twins closed the Rapinoe SC chapter of their careers in January 2020, Rachael went on to cofound and run Mendi, a CBD products company dedicated to helping athletes maintain their health and strength.
